Back to Otterburn

We all know I love abandoned places. My favourite one is probably Otterburn Hall in Northumberland. A derelict hotel and it’s grounds out in the countryside. It’s a peaceful, interesting place to walk the dog on a quiet Sunday. We go here regularly and I posted some photos last year (here and here) but I thought I’d take some more as there’s been a few changes, and the last ones we’re taken while everything was frozen. The conservatory is looking a little worse for wear, but it does look as though some building work is happening in the original building. I’m looking forward to seeing what happens with the place.

Also, one of the houses on the outskirts of the grounds has also become empty. I can’t imagine why nobody would want to live here. I’d genuinely love to live in such a rural spot.

Broomhill Water Tower

A disused water tower in Broomhill, Northumberland. Auctioned off in 2010 by Northumbrian Water, it sold for £15,000, it was set to be turned into a 5 bedroom home by the buyer but I can't find any more information on it since then. As you can see, there is definitely nobody living there. I had a wander around the vicinity of the tower too and found some of the most interesting outhouses I've come across and one or two other empty buildings.

The Cabin

Finish work, pick up the dog and head out to the countryside. A night of calm in between days of stress (we're selling our flat and buying a house!).  We've been to this cabin a few times before and it's the perfect place to switch off. There's no electricity and just a tiny bit of phone signal. We cook dinner on a barbecue or the gas stove and have a few beers round the fire. Inside there's a log burner and a chess board and you can hear the stream as you sleep.
