Dalby Forest

This week's mini adventure was a night camping in Yorkshire. We found a campsite that looked nice and chilled, booked it in advance, and headed down on Tuesday morning. The weather had warned me there might be a bit of drizzle later on in the day but we weren't prepared for the absolute torrential rain we actually got. We had to do an emergency trip to Go Outdoors and buy an extra tarp to put over the tent and a bush shelter so we could actually get a fire going (I refuse to camp without a campfire, it's the best part). The pitch we'd booked was hidden away in the trees away from everyone else, which would have been perfect in good weather. I'll have to go back at some point.

We stuck the night out in the tent, I wasn't wasting a trip to drive back home because of rain. It meant we didn't get out and about much on Tuesday though, which was a shame. Luckily, we woke up on Wednesday to a dry morning and we managed to get a bit of exploring done. We accidentally found ourselves in the Dalby forest, visiting the national trust Bridestones. The heather moorland on the way there was one of the nicest walks I've ever done, and the whole forest was filled with people doing all sorts of activities. Reminded me a little of the Cairngorms in Scotland.

A Cabin & the Lakes

We set off after work on Monday night to spend a night in a little log cabin in Cumbria, near Carlisle. We've stayed here before and it's perfect. No running water, no electricity, just a wood stove that you can stick a kettle or pan on top of. It's set right on a stream so you fall asleep to the sound of water. We didn't get there til late as we'd both been at work during the day, but we wanted to shorten the drive to the Lake District the next day so we could spend more time exploring. I didn't take many pictures as I think I pretty much overdid it last time we were here... Here's a few though.

Airbnb link if you're interested...here.

The next day we set off for the Lakes, stopping near Penrith to visit Aira Force waterfall. The walk to the waterfall is more exciting than the waterfall itself...I won't lie. Still, it was good exercise.

The rest of the day was spent wandering around Windermere (amazing coffee shop here...Homeground, 10/10 flat whites and scones), Coniston and all the spots we stumbled across on the way. We eventually made our way to our campsite for the night which was on a working farm (we were literally in a field of sheep) at the very top field overlooking half the Lake District. We woke up to torrential rain on Wednesday morning so packed up and headed straight home. It's no fun exploring when everything you're wearing is soaking.

Acorn Bank & Alnmouth

Our most recent day off started out as a grey miserable morning, but we were determined to not let the weather ruin our plans and we set off to drive to another National Trust property, Acorn Bank. It's been a while since we drove through the North Pennines, and this time it was so misty it was almost spooky. We pulled over at one point so I could take a photo of this lonely cottage. I couldn't figure out if somebody actually lived there (there were solar panels on the side) or if it was just used for farming.

I haven't actually got round to finishing the other roll of film that I shot here, which was mostly of the interior. It's an unfurnished house but the old walls and windows had some nice vibes going on so I'll share those soon. For now, here's a few of the garden. The greenhouse was small but the rest of the garden was huge and made up for the lack of it. They had an amazing herb garden and bee keeping area, which unfortunately again, is on the other roll of film yet to be developed.

Also on this roll of film, a few shots of boats on the beach at Alnmouth. When the tide is out there are loads of boats left sitting on the sand and the grass, it's a bit of a weird sight.

Last of all, I realised I'd never really photographed my home with film. If you follow me on instagram you'll know I take a LOT of interior shots, but they're always with my iphone. The sun was coming through the living room window fabulously so I thought, why not.  The afternoon sun in this room is probably the main reason I love my flat so much.
