Settling In

April 30, 2025

The first week in our new spot was spent organising the caravan (everything we own had been very much just shoved into the Volvo), making the space a little more efficient, exploring our immediate surroundings and just relaxing. Like bloody hell, what another rollercoaster of a month. Getting here and finding a tiny loch behind the pitch, and the best beach I’ve ever seen on the other side, was such a relief.

We’re counting ourselves lucky to be on Skye, but have a quiet spot to hide away at, especially during the busy summer months. Fox hasn’t spent this much time outdoors since he was a puppy, living on a campsite in the Cairngorms. He’s went straight back into full feral dog mode, digging holes and chewing sticks, and has even learned how to walk across cattle grids effortlessly.

Island Life

April 21, 2025

As I settle in to my new base, I’ve been thinking about what I want to photograph while I’m here. I mentioned a few posts previously that I wish I’d documented more of my own life and living situation on film over the last few years… after all, these are the photos I enjoy looking back on most. Don’t get me wrong, I love my landscapes and my old tin buildings, and I’ll still photograph them to death, but I think my slightly unusual way of living deserves to take up more room in my folder of negatives.

So begins a series, ‘Island Life’. A tiny caravan on a disused campsite on the Isle of Skye. Creating my own little nook amongst old structures, trailers and static caravans on a land filled with memories of it’s former use. The hills on one side and the coast on the other. I’ve photographed Skye as a visitor, but now I’ll be looking at it as home.

The Eriba Heads to Skye

April 13, 2025

With the itch to move on and get the caravan back on the road, we found ourselves booking a few nights in a small, five pitch motorhome stopover before we moved to our new permanent pitch. A good opportunity to have a few nights and days to just exist, explore some beaches, and spend some time doing nothing.

It feels very good to be able to photograph lochs and mountains again, and I instantly feel more creative being in a new area. Also, I’m still blown away by how much I love the photos that come from my point & shoot camera. It’s a canon sure shot that I picked up from Cameras By Max and it’s a little corker. It was even recently dropped from a pretty great height (for something the size of a wallet anyways) and it has lived to tell the tale, and document my move up to the Isle of Skye,
