The Last of Summer

January 06, 2026

I’m writing this in the depths of winter, with a thick layer of snow outside, frustrated that the weather won’t let me get out and about on my bike or go for long evening walks.

I’m looking back at this roll, all shot towards the end of summer, where I could squeeze multiple rides in throughout a day, go on big walks to old bothies or ruins, and it was a novelty to see the caravan in the dark. I feel like that’s how I see it 80% of the time at the minute.

I’m looking forward to these days again, but I can’t lie the one thing I love about the snow is photographing white scenes. I might not have been out and about as much, but my camera has definitely been getting some use.

Seasonal pros, seasonal cons.

A Steep Windy Road

December 08, 2025

I’m usually not a fan of photographing anything that I can google and see a hundred versions of the same scene, or shooting in blazing broad daylight… but it felt a bit criminal to drive the Bealach na Bà and not take a shot. If my researching skills are correct, it has the steepest ascent of any road in the UK, paired with pretty epic scenery and a remote location… so it’s not exactly a road you drive often. Unless you live in Applecross of course.

Steven and I once accidentally drove hardknott pass in torrential rain in a fiat panda (we thought it was a shortcut to the coffee shop) and driving the Bealach na Bà is the only road that’s felt as challenging, and has made my ass clench in a similar fashion.

A Track to a Bothy

November 07, 2025

When did I become the type of person who huffs and puffs their way along a rocky, winding track for miles, just to photograph.a locked bothy? Why was sitting outside, getting bitten by midges, eating a soggy squashed backpack sandwich and a flask of coffee one of my favourite lunches ever?

It’s funny, how things change. If you’d told teenage Amy that this was how I’d spend my time in my mid 30’s, I’d be sighing until my lungs were empty.

If film weren’t so expensive, I’d say I was a cheap date, but these simple days with a camera really are my favourite.
